Yash Chopra’s Veer-Zaara is a romantic love story set against the backdrop of conflicts between India and Pakistan. Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee are in the lead roles in the movie. The other starcast includes Boman Irani, Kirron Kher, Divya Dutta and Anupam Kher. Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini also did special appearances in the film. The music of the film is given by Madan Mohan while lyrics are written by Javed Akhtar. Zaara Haayat Khan ( Preity Zinta ) is a carefree young Pakistani girl, who travels to India because of her bebe’s ( Grandmother ) final wish to scatter her ashes in the river there. In India, Zaara’s bus meets with an accident where she is saved by Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh ( Shahrukh Khan ). Veer also helps Zaara in completing her Bebe’s final rites. In the return, he asks Zaara to travel his village with him and spend one day with him and his family. Zaara agrees for the journey. But after spending a day together, the two fall in love with each other. Veer’s father ( Amitabh Bachchan ) ask him to tell his feeling to Zaara. Veer also wants to express his love but he is waiting for the right time. But when he is just going to tell Zaara about his feeling, it is revealed that Zaara is engaged to a Pakistani guy, Raza ( Manoj Bajpai ). But Veer still confesses his love to Zaara and leave the place with tears.

After returning to Pakistan, Zaara also realizes that she loves Veer from the deep of her heart. Zara’s friend Shabbo ( Divya Dutta ) make a call to Veer and tell him about Zaara’s love for him. Veer quits the Indian Air Force and flies to Pakistan in order to bring her back to India. But after arriving there, he meets Zaara’s mother, who begs him to leave Zaara. Veer respects her emotions and decides to leave. But Zaara’s fiance, who eventually came to know about their affair, imprison Veer for being an Indian spy. After 22 yeras, Saamiya Siddiqui ( Rani Mukherjee ), who is a Pakistani lawyer, recives Veer’s case. Veer tells everything about his past to Saamiya and also about how he visited Pakistan and imprisoned for the wrong reason. In the end, Saamiya win the case and Pakistani government releases Veer from prison.
