Shaad Ali directed Saathiya stars Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukherjee in lead roles. the other starcast of the film includes Tanuja, Sandhya Mridul and Satish Shah. Music Director, A. R. Rehman, has composed the music of the film while the songs were sung by Sonu Nigam, Kadar Ghulam Mustafa, Srinivas, Mahalaxmi, Kunal Ganjawala, A.R. Rehman, Richa Sharma, Madhushree, Sadhna Sargam, K.K., Adnan Sami and Asha Bhonsle. The movie was released on December 20, 2002 under tha banner of Yash Raj Films Pvt. Ltd. and Madras Talkies. It was the debut movie of Shaad Ali as a director. The movie is a Hindi remake of Mani Ratnam’s hit Tamil movie, Alaipayuthey. Bollywood superstars, Shahrukh Khan and Tabu, are in special appearances in the movie. The movie won six awards at the Filmfare Awards.

Aditya Sehgal ( Vivek Oberoi ) is an anxious guy who is looking for, Suhani Sharma ( Rani Mukherjee ), everywhere with the help of his friends. The movie goes in flashback, where Aditya is a young law student in Mumbai. She meets Suhani, who is a young medical student, at a wedding function. Aditya tries to flirt with her but Suhani opposes. After some days, Aditya spots her again in the Mumbai local train. Aditya communicates with her. Aditya falls for her and expresses his feeling to Suhani. Suhani first insists that she does not believe in love and romance but finally admits that she too loves him.

Both of them talks to their parents. But their parents opposes their relationship. Aditya and Suhani decide to keep distance from each other. But soon they realise that they both miss each other. They finally decides to reunite. They breaks all the rules and get married in secret. When they returns to their house, Aditya’s father curses the pair for their betrayal. Aditya and Suhani finds an apartments and begin their happy married life there. Very soon reality comes in front and they starst fighting over small matters. One day Suhani meets with an accident and goes into a coma. Aditya finds her in the hospital and realise how much he loves her.
