Simi Garewal or Simi Grewal is a famous actress in bollywood who was born on 17th October, 1947 at Punjab. She was born into a Garewal Punjabi family in which her father was a brigadier in the army. She grew up in England and consequently had an English accent. She was married to O.P. Bahl but seperated soon. She came back to India as a teen to become an actress. She had worked with leading directors such as Raj Kapoor and Satyajit Ray in 1960s and 1970s. She was known for being bold in the movies where she has given some explicit scenes. She made her debut in 1962 with the English-language movie Tarzan Goes to India opposite Feroz Khan.

Simi Garewal starred in bollywood in 1960s and worked with leading director Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker in 1970, Raj Khosla in Do Badan, Satyajit Ray in Aranyer Din Ratri and Mrinal Sen in Padatik. She also starred in Columbia Pictures’ Siddhartha, based on the novel by Herman Hesse. She did a nude scene that caused some controversy in India. She acted in the popular film Kabhi Kabhie in 1976 which was made by her brother-in-law Yash Chopra. But her most effective role was in the movie Karz in 1980 where she played the role of a vamp who killed her husband. Apart from movies she has also starred in in the BBC docu-drama Maharajas in 1987 which was based on the book by Charles Allen. But her attention turned to writing and direction in early 1980s.

Simi had formed her own production company which was named as Siga Arts International. She also made a documentary for Channel 4 in the UK called Living Legend Raj Kapoor in 1984. She also wrote and directed a Hindi feature film Rukhsat and produced television commercials. She won the 1st Prize from the 1988 Paters Award in Australia for this. She usually wears her signature white clothes on TV shows and at award ceremonies, and is popularly known as ‘The Lady in White’. She has won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in Do Badan in 1966 and Saathi in 1968. She also received the nomination as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Karz in 1980. Today Simi Garewal anchors the talk show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’.
