Songs Of Shrimanji

Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Kishore Kumar and Rajendra Kumar starred movie ‘Shrimanji’ is a comedy drama movie which was directed by Ram Dayal. The movie was released in 1968 under the banner of Mukul Enterprises. Other starcast included Mohan Choti, Jeevan, I.S. Johar, Rajesh Khanna, Moolchand, Mina Roy, Asit Sen, Murad, Sunder, Yakub, Hiralal etc in important roles. The music of the movie was given by famous O.P. Nayyar whereas the songs were rendered by Asha Bhosle, Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. Lyrics were written by Aziz Kashmiri and S.H. Bihari. Movie starts in the year 1942, with a man named M.L. Gupta (Hiralal) lives a wealthy lifestyle in Churchgate, Bombay alongwith his wife named Maya (Veena). He is an advocate by profession and therefore is a respected person in his community. Later one day he travels to Calcutta but unfortunately his journey is attacked by Japanese fighter aircraft. Therefore he takes shelter with a prostitute named Panna. Soon she gives him drugs and later seduces him and as a result, Gupta gets intimate with her. On the next morning, he returns home and decides to forget about this affair. After sometime, Maya gives birth to a baby boy and named him Johar.

Four years later Maya adopts another child named Kishore which is not acceptable by Gupta and he therefore asks Maya to leave his home as he suspects her of having an affair with someone else. Later he re-locates to America. After twenty long years, Gupta once again meets his family which is unknown to him. Kishore (Kishore Kumar) is recruited as a tutor to Johar (I.S. Johar) who is irresponsible. He against his father’s wishes becomes a sadhu. But Kishore soon realises that Johar is cheating his father and they become friends. Also they woo two young women named Asha (Mina Roy) and Lata (Shahida) respectively. Later Johar marries Lata without her father’s permission.
