Shilpa Shirodkar is a popular bollywood actress and model of 1990s. She was born on 20th November, 1973 in a moderate Marathi-speaking family. She is the grand-daughter of Meenakshi Shirodkar who was the famous Marathi actress who starred in Marathi movie ‘Brahmachari’ in 1930s and was the first actress to wear a swimsuit and gambol in a pool. Shilpa Shrodkar has a younger sister named Namrata Shirodkar who is also a bollywood actress. Both had started their career together but Shilpa started with movies and Namrata with modelling. She is married to Apresh Ranjit on 11th July, 2000 at Mumbai in a simple ceremony. The two lived in New Zealand then to the Netherlands and finally setting down in London, Britain and gave birth to a daughter, Anushka.

Shilpa Shirodkar made her bollywood debut in the year 1989 with the movie ‘Bhrashtachar’ which was directed by Ramesh Sippy in which she played the role of Gopi alongwith Rekha, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher and Rajnikanth. The movie was hit and she was noted for her performance. Due to her acting ability she got a role in her next movie ‘Kishen Kanhaiya’ which was directed by Rakesh Roshan where she played the role of Radha alongwith some big guns like Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Kader Khan and Amrish Puri. The movie was a superhit for which she was noticed and appreciated by the critics.

The role of Anita Pratap Singh in the movie ‘Hum’ was also appreciated and applauded by the audience. She played that role opposite Govinda, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth in 1991. By the time she became one of the popular celebrity of bollywood who was offered many roles for several movies but she selected only those roles which she liked according to the story. That helped her in becoming a famous star among audience. Two years later in 1993, she once again appeared in superhit movie ‘Aankhen’ directed by David Dhawan in which she performed as Chandramukhi aka Chanda opposite Govinda. She quit acting after giving a hit performance in critically acclaimed ‘Mrityudand’ (1997) and her last movie was ‘Gaja Gamini’ in 2000.
