Rajesh Khanna and Rakhee Gulzar starred movie ‘Shehzada’ is a family drama movie which was directed by K. Shankar. The movie was released in 1972 and the otehr starcast included Karan Dewan, Veena, Pandharibai, Sunder, Mohan Choti, Madan Puri, Sonoo Arora, Gulshan Bawra, Badri Prasad, Shreeram Shastri, Varalakshmi and Halam in supporting cast. The movie was produced by Surinder Kapoor whereas the story and screenplay of the movie were written by R.K. Rangaram. Dialogues of the movie were written by Rajendra Krishan. Legendary Rahul Dev Burman has given the music of the movie and list of playback singers included Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi.

Movie starts with Devdutt who is a freedom fighter and goes to the DIG of Police who lives a wealthy lifestyle. He goes to him to get his daughter named Janki (Pandharibai) married to the DIG’s son named Ratan (Karan Dewan). DIG and his wife named Rajlaxmi (Veena) opposes this proposal as Devdutt is a poor man. They also said that they have nothing to do with him but suddenly their agrees to marry Janki and refuses to marry any other girl. They eventually relent and agree to this marriage. Soon after the marriage, the riots rises in the city between the police and the freedom fighters which results in the death of the DIG. Rajlaxmi totally blames Devdutt for her husband’s death and also asks Janki to leave the house.

But she does not know that Janki is pregnant. Ratan becomes a mere spectator who is seeing his wife is thrown away from the house and he is unable to do anything. Later Janki’s father also passes away. Soon she gives birth to a baby boy and named him as Rajesh. Now after many years Rajesh (Rajesh Khanna) has grown up and drives a truck. He is also in love with Chanda (Rakhee Gulzar) who is a local shopkeeper. His mother asks Rajesh to meet his father and he does so where he is welcome by his grandmother who is hoping that Rajesh has left his mother and comes to her. But he refuses that and this enraged Rajlaxmi who asks him to leave.
