Amitabh Bachchan and Nutan Behl starred movie ‘Saudagar’ is a family drama movie which was directed by Sudhendu Roy. The movie was released in 1973 under the banner of Rajshri Productions. Other starcast included V. Gopal, Padma Khanna, Trilok Kapoor, Murad, Dev Kishan, Leela Mishra, C.S. Dubey, Jugnu and many more in significant roles. The movie was produced by Tarachand Barjatya and Rajkumar Barjatya whereas the story of the movie was written by Narendranath Mitra. The screenplay and dialogues of the movie were given by Sudhendu Roy and P.L. Santoshi. Music was rendered by amous Ravindra Jain and songs were sang by Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi. Hit songs of the movie are listed below:

Movie starts with a guy named Moti (Amitabh Bachchan) who lives a poor lifestyle in a village. He sells gurd in the market which is his only way of earning. For this he has to do so much of toil as he has to collect the raw material first and then he takes it to an older woman named Mahjubhi (Nutan Behl) who also lives in the same village. She makes exemplary gurd. Here Moti has fallen in love with a village girl but is unable to afford to pay for the marriage expenses to her father. Therefore he decides to get marry with Mahjubhi. Soon he proposes her and also she accepts his proposal. Later both of them get marry and she comes in to live with Moti.

Now Moti starts to extract a lot of work from Mahjubhi in order to save enough money to pay for his marriage expenses. Day by day he is gaining the money and later one day when he saves enough money, he decides to divorce Mahjubhi accusing her of infidelity. Now his path is clear and soon he marries with that village girl. After that he goes back to his business of selling gurd. But to his shock, he is unble to sell any guard as they are not of the quality which Mahjubhi used to make.
