Sapna Awasthi is a playback singer known for her raunchy songs in the bollywood. She is the daughter of a Sanskrit lecturer in Lucknow University. She has learnt hindustani classical music from Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahvidyalaya. She is married to Kartik Awasthi and they have their own drama company named the Awadh Theatre Group specialising in opera plays. She composed, sang and also acted in sometimes in th plays. She is a big fan of Meena Kumari and Guru Dutt in acting and her tastes in music are inclined more towards old melodious songs and she favors singers like melody queen Lata Mangeshkar and Noor Jahaan.

Sapna Awasthi had started professional singing in 1990 and had rendered her first movie playback song “Banno Teri Ankhiyaan” for the movie Dushmani in 1995. This had created the niche for her in the music industry and she got many more proposals for singing. She however enjoys live performances more then recording a song. She can sing in various languages such as Telegu, Assamees, Bhojpur, Rajesthani, Nepali and Bengali. Sapna has came out with a new album ‘Kahin Diya Jale Kahin Jiya’ in which she has rendered Pakistani Folk type of songs. She has sung the song “Jai Ambe Jagdambe Ma” in the movie Krantiveer in 1994. The song was directed by Anand Milind. Then she showed her talent in the movie Anjaam in 1994 where she sang “Pratighaat Ki Jwala Jale” for music director Anand Milnd and gave her voice to Madhuri Dixit.

Then Sapna Awasthi sang in many successful movies such as Zamaana Deewana (1995), Dushmani: A Violent Love Story (1995), Raja Hindustani (1996), Darmiyan (1997), Dil Se.. (1998), Jaanwar (1999), Ghaath (2000), Company (2002), Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002), Dil Ka Rishta (2003) and Zameer (2005). Her song “Pardesi Pardesi Jana Nahin” from the movie Raja Hindustani was a superhit. The song “Khallas” in the movie Company was also became a hit which was picturised on Isha Koppikar. The most rememberable song of her was “Chaiyan Chaiyan” in the movie Dil Se whose music was directed by A.R Rahman. She was recently seen on a musical reality show on NDTV Imagine channel named ‘Dhoom Macha De’.
