Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini and Vinod Khanna starred action movie Rajput is a multi star movie which was directed by Vijay Anand. The movie was produced by Mushir Alam and Mohammad Riaz and released on 16th April, 1982. Ranjeeta Kaur, Tina Munim, Ranjeet, Rehman, Nasir Hussain, Iftekhar, Indrani Mukherjee, Murad and Purnima played their significant roles in the movie. The music of the songs in the movie was given by famous duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal and the list of singers include Asha Bhosle, Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi who had given their soulful voice to the songs in the movie. The movie went on to do a good business at the box office.

The movie starts with the Maharaja ( Murad ) who is unable to bear the taking of his kingdom by an Indian Government order and kills himself. His son Jaipal ( Ranjeet ) takes his place after Maharaja and starts rebel. He does not want to give his kingdom to the Government. It is in this background that Police Superintendent Dhirendra Singh ( Rajesh Khanna ) assumes his duties. There is a conflict arises between Jaipal and Dhirendra Singh for whom he is transferred to some another town. Thakur Ram Avtaar ( Iftekhar ) who is his father and wants him to marry his childhood friend named Janki (Hema Malini) who is the daughter of Thakur Pratap Singh. He decides to meet her and falls in love with her when seeing her first time. But he does not know that Janki has fallen in love with Manu Pratap Singh.

Janki is abducted on the day of marriage by Jaipal’s nephew ( Tej Sapru ) but is shot dead by Manu. Manu is sentenced to jail for rest of his life. Here angry Jaipal wants to take revenge and kills Manu’s father Thakur Sangram Singh ( Om Shivpuri ) and sets fire to their house. Jaipal sets his eyes on young Kamli ( Ranjeeta Kaur) who is Bhanu Pratap Singh’s ( Vinod Khanna ) beloved. Jaipal makes her pregnant and refuses to marry her. Kamli shames on herself and refuses to meet Bhanu. When he gets to know that Jaipal had killed his father and set fire to their property, he becomes a bandit and calls himself Bhavani. Here Manu is released from the jail for his good conduct and he becomes bounty hunter. Jaipal kidnaps Dhirendra’s son and holds him for ransom but at last child is saved.
