Shashi Kapoor, Mumtaz, Rajesh Khanna and Vinod Khanna starred movie ‘Prem Kahani’ is musical drama which is also full of action and romance. The movie was directed by Raj Khosla and it was released on 1st January, 1975 under the banner of Khosla Enterprises. Other starcast included K.N. Singh, Trilok Kapoor, Dulari, Leela Mishra, Yunus Parvez, Purnima and Baby Sonu in significant roles. The screenplay of the movie was written by Jayant Dharmadhikari and Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza and the music of the movie was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The movie starts with Rajesh Kamleshwar Narain (Rajesh Khanna) who is a poor and lives a poor lifestyle in a small town in British India along with his brother whose name is Brijesh K. Narain (Trilok Kapoor), his wife (Purnima) and their daughter whose name is Munni B. Narain (Baby Sonu). Rajesh attends college and there he sees Kamini Sinha (Mumtaz) and falls in love with her. Kamini also likes Rajesh and they both hope to get married someday. Brijesh is active in opposing Britishers and forcing them to leave India but poetic Brijesh has no interest in politics at all. Everything changes when Brijesh’s family gets the news of his killing by the Britishers. Now Rajesh has decided to take a revenge of his death by actively becoming involved with freedom fighters.

Very soon Rajesh becomes a thorn on the Britisher’s side and orders are issued to apprehend him - dead or alive. He also gives a contemptuous rejection to his sweetheart Kamini who later married to a man of her father, Rai Bahadur Shrikant Sinha’s (K.N. Singh) choice. She married Dheeraj Kumar (Shashi Kapoor) who is Superintendent of Police. While on the run from the law, assisted by a Pathan truck-driver, Sher Khan, Rajesh finds shelter in the house of his childhood friend who is non other than Dheeraj. Sher Khan has been arrested and is being tortured. He soon reveals Rajesh’s hiding place.
