Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan starrer “Paheli” was released on June 24, 2005. The movie is directed by Amol Palekar under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment. Other cast of the movie includes Juhi Chawla, Sunil Shetty, Anupam Kher, Aditi Govitrikar, Neena Kulkarni, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Padma Rani, Somesh Agarwal, Rajpal Yadav, Aasif Sheikh, A K Hangal and Mohan Bhandari are the one seen in important roles. The popular music of the movie is composed and directed by M M Kreem. Paheli is a more of a folk saga then a commercial film, Shahrukh Khan has been involved in numerous commercial hits in his career. To prove his metal in the acting arena he has done Paheli. He also dawns the role of a producer also. The combination of commercially successful SRK and a great story teller like Amol Palekar has brought their best in this film. The story is based on very simple characters in the rural India. Lacchi ( Rani Mukerjee ) a simple rural girl is married to ambitious Kisan ( Shahrukh Khan ). Just after their very first night of their wedding, Kisan left the village to make money. He didn’t returned back for five long years.

In the mean while a ghostly figure who is deeply in love with Lacchi adopts the looks of Kisan and started living as her husband. Everything was going smoothly, the whole village including Lacchi believed that this ghost was Kisan. Suddenly the story comes alive when after a long period the real Kisan returns back. Everyone is in a big dilemma, now it is very difficult for Lacchi to identify who is her true husband and who is her true love. The ghost also refrains from going back, as he was also enjoying the life with his loved one. The story of the movie is very simple and is presented in the very simplistic way by the director Amol palekar. Shahrukh Khan is at his acting best so as is Rani Mukerjee. Overall the movie is great one to watch. Although being completely different from previous SRK films, Paheli should be appreciated by all movie buffs.
