Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu starred romantic comedy movie Padosan was directed by Jyoti Swaroop. It was released on 1st January, 1968 under the banner of Mehmood Productions. Other starcast includes Mehmood, Kishore Kumar, Om Prakash, Keshto Mukherjee, Raj Kishore, Dulari, Agha and Ratna. Rajendra Krishan had written the screenplay and dialogues of the movie. Music of the movie was given by famous Rahul Dev Burman with the playback singers include Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mehmood who gave their soulful voice. The movie did a great business at the box office and became a superhit.

The movie starts with Bhola (Sunil Dutt) who is a simple young man and have a deep faith in vedas and shashtras. He does all his works according to the shashtras. He has a book of shashtras which dictate that a man must marry when he is of the right age and that is 25 years of age. He calculated his age and finds that he is 26 years of age and decides to marry. His search of bride takes him to his Mami’s house. There he meets beautiful Bindu (Saira Banu) and falls in love with her but Bindu is not interested in him. He is thrilled but all his trill goes to vein when he see that Bindu likes her music teacher Master Pillai (Mehmood). Bhola goes to clever and witty friend Vidyapathi ‘GURU‘ (Kishore Kumar) and his chelas Banarasi (Mukri) and Calcuttiya (Keshto Mukherjee) for their help. They decides to teach music to Bhola but all in vein.

Then they decides to have a song competetion with Master Pillai where Bhola has only to perform mouth action and the song will sing by Vidyapathi. They win the competetion and this attracts Bindu towards Bhola. On the otherhand Bhola’s Mama (Om Prakash) who has seperated from his mami under some misunderstandings is keen to marry again. He approve photo of Bindu brought to him by a pundit. Bhola decides to sing on Bindu’s birthday and his game is caught by Bindu and she gets annoyed with him. She decides to marry with her guruji Master Pillai. Vidyapathi tries a last chance to win Bindu’s heart for his friend Bhola. He gets success in this and Bindu at last agrees to marry Bhola. Her guruji plays shehnai at the wedding.
