Nandita Das is a famous bollywood actress and filmmaker who was born on 7th November, 1969 at the capital of India, New Delhi. She is the daughter of Jatin Das who was the celebrated Indian painter from Orissa State and her mother Varsha Das was a writer. She attended the Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in New Delhi for her studies. She has her bachelor’s degree in Geography and Post Graduation from the Delhi School of Social Work. She was married to Soumya Sen from 2002 to 2006. She has appeared in more than thirty movies in different languages such as Oriya, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Urdu and Marathi.

Nandita Das has started her acting career with a theatre group called Jannatya Manch. Her acting debut in the movies came in the year 1989 with the Oriya movie ‘Parinati’ which was directed by Prakash Jha. Her role in the movie was appriciated. She made her bollywood debut in the year 1996 whith the English language movie ‘Fire’ directed by Deepa Mehta. She played the role of Sita alongwith Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Javed Jaffrey in the movie and her scene with Shabana Azmi created a controversy. She next appeared in the Hindi language movie ‘Earth’ in the same year. She played the role of an ayaa named Shanta. She was applauded for her performance in the movie.
