Mumtaz is a former famous bollywood actress who was very poupular in 1960s and 1970s. She was born on 31st July, 1947 at Mumbai, Maharashtra. She is the daughter of Abdul Saleem Askari and Sardar Shadi Habib Agha. She is married to millionaire Mayur Madhvani on 29th May, 1974. She have two daughters named Natasha who recently married actor Fardeen Khan in December, 2005 who is son of Feroz Khan and another daughter Tanya. Mumtaz has a sister named Mallika who is married to the young brother of famous wrestler Dara Singh. Mumtaz had acknowledged that she has successfully battled cancer and that she and her husband have overcome personal problems in their marriage.

Mumtaz made her debut in the bollywood at the age of just twelve years where she started as an extra in the movies. She got a small role in the big movie ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’ in 1963 which was directed by Moni Bhattacharjee. Also she got some lead roles in small budget movies such as Boxer (1965), Samson (1964) and Tarzan and King Kong (1965). She worked with free style wrestler Dara Singh in about sixteen action movies and was labelled as a stunt film heroine. She attracted the attention over herself after playing a supporting role in the movie ‘Mere Sanam’ in 1965 where she played the role of Kamini. The memorable sexy song yeh hai reshmai was picturized on her. Her performance led to another sizzling song “Aye Dushman Jaan” in another hit movie ‘Patthar Ke Sanam’ in 1967.

Finally she got the leading role in the movie ‘Ram Aur Shyam’ where she played as Shanta opposite Dilip Kumar alongwith Waheeda Rehman. She got the major attention after doing this role and received her first Filmfare nomination as Best Supporting Actress. She starred in the blockbuster movie ‘Do Raaste’ which was directed by Raj Khosla in 1969 where she played as Reena opposite superstar Rajesh Khanna. Once Shashi Kapoor refused to work in the movie Saccha Jootha with her saying she was a stunt heroine but wanted her to be his heroine in the movie Chor Machaye Shor. She has won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Khilona in 1970. She has starred with many superhit actors such as Feroz Khan, Jeetendra, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Rajesh Khanna.
