The movie Karwa Chouth comes up as a devotional movie and runs on the lines of the legend of Karwa Chouth. The story of the movie revolves around the life of a young girl Gauri ( Meera Madhuri ), she comes from a wealthy family background. She was used to live in luxuries and was very fond of eating throughout the day. She was the youngest sister in a family which had seven sons and a daughter. Her brothers were all married and the whole family lived together in a joint family. One day Gauri came across a young handsome guy Shankar ( Ashish Kumar ), she lost her heart to him instantly and hence love blossomed between the two.

When she informed her parents about Shankar, they agreed to marry her. Soon their marriage was arranged and she left her family to become a part of her new family. Her new family consisted of her father in law Sukhiram and mother in law Janki Devi. She also had a young sister in law in the form of Chutki. Their life was going on smoothly until one day when the Karwa Chouth festival arrived, she was supposed to keep a fast to increase her husband’s life. She was very happy to become a part of the celebrations and hence fasted but till the evening she was starving but could not eat before seeing moon. Her brothers faked her by lighting behind big tree which looked like rising moon and she ate her food. But this brought treagedy to her family, Shankar died and now she felt that it was her fault. Hence she decided to bring her husband back to life by worshiping Maa Karwa Chouth.
