Bobby Deol, Neha and Moushumi Chatterjee starred bollywood movie ‘Kareeb’ is a romantic drama movie which was directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The movie was released in 1998 and other starcast included Abhay Chopra, Johnny Lever, Sushma Seth, Gopi Desai, Saurabh Shukla, Vijayendra Ghatge, Manav Kaushik, Shammi Kapoor, Akhil Mishra, Abhijit Joshi, Rajkumar Rana etc who played equally important roles. The movie was produced by Vir Chopra and Vidhu Vinod Chopra whereas the story and dialogues of the movie were written by Kamna Chandra. Movie starts with Brij Kumar (Bobby Deol) who lives a wealthy lifestyle alongwith his family which consists of hs father (Saurabh Shukla), his mother, sister and a brother. He is also commonly called as Birju by his family members. He is a carefree person and wants to be free from any responsibility while his father has some other future plans for him as he wants him to take some responsibility on his shoulders. But Birju is interested in petty thievery and lies. One day he meets a charming and gorgeous young girl named Neha (Neha) with whome he has fallen in love. Soon he tells his parents about Neha and wants her to marry. His parents become pleased with his decision hoping that this will set him on the right path.

When Neha finds out the truth about Birju, she refuses to marry him and re-locates to another town with her only mother (Moushumi Chatterjee). But it is too hard to get Neha out of his mind and therefore he runs away from his house to locate Neha. After some hard moments of life, he is able to locate Neha and her mother but is shocked to see her mother who is hospitalized. Later Birju comes to know that her mother needs a major surgery that costs a lot of money. So he decides to steal the money from his house and comes to the hospital. But he is shocked to know that the operation has been performed and Neha is about to marry the same doctor who has performed the operation.
