Shammi Kapoor and Saira Banu starred a romantic and comedy movie Junglee was produced and directed by Subodh Mukherji. The movie was released in 1961 under the banner of Subodh Mukherji Productions. Other starcast includes Shashikala, Anoop Kumar, Lalita Pawar, Azra, Rajan Haksar, Shivraj and Moni Chatterjee who played significant roles in the movie. Subodh Mukherji had also written the story and screenplay of the movie. The lyrics were written by Hasrat Jaipuri. Original music in the movie was given by Jaikishan Dayabhai Pankal and Shankarsinh Raghuwanshi and the list of playback singers include Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh and Mohammad Rafi who sang the songs of the movie.

In the movie Chandrashekhar ( Shammi Kapoor ) who was born in a aristrocratic family. The family is run by Chandrashekhar’s mother ( Lalita Pawar ) who believes laughter is a sign of belonging to the lower class. That’s why she does not encouraged laughter in her house. Chandrashekhar has a sister named Mala ( Shashikala ) who always enjoys and laugh when in the house. She has no fear of her mother and she dares to fall in love with Jeevan ( Anoop Kumar ). Her mother is unaware of their love relationship but things changed when she comes to know that her daughter is in love. She ask Chandrashekhar to take her away from their home and he takes her to distant and scenic Kashmir for sometime.

Chandrashekhar’s mother instructs him to get married to a girl from a princely family. He reaches Kashmir with his sister and meets up with beautiful Rajkumari ( Saira Banoo ). He falls in love with her. He is unable to do anything in a snowstorm and is forced to be with her for a night. He becomes a care free man who has fallen in love and realizes what he is missing in his life. That makes a lot of changes in him which are welcome by Mala but his mother is unable to bear this. The matter become more complicated when Chandrashekhar gets to know that Rajkumari does not belong to a princely family. He is sure that his mother will not agree with this proposal. It was Saira Banu’s debut movie. The song “Koi Mujhe Janglee Kahe” was a superhit.
