Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan is a very famous actress of 1970s and 1980s in the bollywood. She was born on 10th April, 1948 at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. She was born in a Bengali family of Indira and Taroon Kumar Bhaduri who was a writer, journalist and stage artist in Jabalpur. She studied in St. Joseph’s Convent School in Bhopal. She is an alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. She is married to superstar Amitabh Bachchan on 3rd June, 1973. She has a daugter named Shweta Bachchan-Nanda who is married to Nikhil Nanda and a son named Abhishek Bachchan who is married with Aishwarya Rai. She has been a Member of Parliament of Samajwadi Party representing Rajya Sabha.

Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan started her career of acting in the year 1963 with the Bangla movie Mahanagar which was directed by Satyajit Ray. She played the supporting role in the movie and she was just 15 years of age at that time. She made her debut in the bollywood with the movie Guddi in the year 1971. The movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee where she played the role of a schoolgirl obsessed with film star Dharmendra. After that she moved to Mumbai to settle her career in the bollywood. Then she got an opportunity to star in her next movie named ‘Uphaar’ in 1971 opposite Swarup Dutt. Some of her hit movies are Jawani Diwani, Koshish, Anamika, Piya Ka Ghar and Bawarchi. She acted with her husband Amitabh Bachchan in the hit films Zanjeer (1973), Abhimaan (1973), Chupke Chupke (1975) and Sholay (1975).

The movie Koshish in which she played the role of Aarti Mathur who was a deaf-mute, was also became a successful movie. She starred with Sanjeev Kumar in that movie. Her last film as a lead actress was Silsila (1981), also opposite her husband. But the movie surprisingly flop of the year. She stopped acting in movies after that and focused on raising her children. She came back after the gap of 18 years with the movie Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa (1998) and played the mother role. Later she acted in Fiza (2000) for which she received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her work, family drama movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007). She has won Filmfare Best Actress Award for Abhimaan, Kora Kagaz and Naukar. She was also awarded Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
