Iqbal talks about the dreams of a young 18 year old deaf and mute boy about making a career in the sport of cricket and reaching at the very top notch. Talented director Nagesh Kukunoor has wonderfully narrated this sensitive cricket fantasy. Before Iqbal many other sports based rather cricket based movies have been produced in the Bollywood. Many of them like Lagan, Aaval number were great success. The story of the movie revolves around the life of a young boy Iqbal ( Shreyas Talpade ) who aspires to make it big in the field of cricket. The only problem was that he was a completely mute and deaf. He belongs to the family of a poor farmer in a small village of Gujarat. He has to face many hurdles before realizing his dreams. The strongest hurdle comes in the form of his father who is strongly against cricket and wants Iqbal to be a farmer.

But that didn’t stopped dreaming about cricket, without worrying about his disabilities he works on his fast paced bowling. He managed to inspire a cricket coach ( Girish Karnad ) to coach him in his academy, but this talented lad hit a rich boy on the head while bowling and was thrown out of the academy. India discard Mohit ( Naseeruddin Shah ), now a chronic alcoholic was a great bowler inn his time. Iqbal managed to convince Mohit to coach him. Under the able guidance and his hard work he managed to play for a lesser known team in the prestigious Ranji Trophy. He managed to take loads of wickets during the course of the tournament and hence managed to get a chance in the Indian team. Both the leading actors Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah have performed wonderfully in their respective roles. Overall Iqbal is a great inspiring movie, which has a long gripping effect on the viewers.
