Songs of Hare Rama Hare Krishna


Hare Rama Hare Krishna is a 1971 released romantic suspense flick directed by Dev Anand. The movie is written and produced by Dev Anand himself. The movie stars Dev Anand, Zeenat Aman and Mumtaz in lead roles. The other starcast of the film includes Prem Chopra, Prem Nath, Kishore Sahu, Kunki Anand, Istekhar, Mehmood Junior, Achala Sachdev, Sudhir and Raj Kishore in important roles. The music of the film is composed by veteran music director, Rahul Dev Burman. The lyrics of the songs are written by Anand Bakshi. The movie is still famous among people for its melodious songs. The most famous song of the movie is ‘Dum Maro Dum’ for which singer Asha Bhonsle won Filmfare Best Female Playback Award. The movie proved out to be the best debut vehicle for actress Zeenat Aman. Though Zeenat played second female lead in the film but her role was more praised by people as compared to Mumtaz’s role. Mumtaz played the female lead in the film. Initiall, the film recieved mixed response from people but later it went on to become a huge hit at box office.

The film gives an anti drug message. Prashant (Dev Anand) and Jasbir (Zeenat Aman) are brother and sister. They both really love each other but always feels bad about their parent’s quarrels. Finally, their parents decides to get seperated leaving Prashant with the mother and Jasbir with the father. Jasbir refuse to stay with her father and wants to go back to her brother and mother. Her father the tells her lie that her mother and brother met with an accident and are dead now. Jasbir believes that she will never be able to see her brother again. This shocking news also parts her away from her father and she considers her father responsible for all what had happened in their life.

Jasbir runs away from home. Years later, Prashant, who is now a pilot, learns that Jasbir is in Nepal. He reveals that Jasbir is in Kathmandu and is staying with a group of hippies. Prashant decides to travel to Kathmandu in search of her sister. He wants to reunite with his sister and also wants to bring her back. Prashant comes across a beautiful village girl named Shanti (Mumtaz) in Kathmandu. He falls in love with her and decides to get married to her. Prashant learns that Jasbir is living there with a new name and identity of Janice. He meets with her but she refuse to recognized him. Jasbir has became a drug addict and she has forgotten about her family and her childhood.
