Sunil Dutt and Mala Sinha starred movie Gumrah is a romantic and musical drama movie produced and directed by B.R. Chopra. The movie was 28th April, 1964 under the banner of B.R. Films. Other starcast includes Ashok Kumar, Moolchand, Nana Palsikar, Nirupa Roy, Shashikala and Deven Verma who played their roles very effectively. The dialogues of the movie were written by Akhtar-Ul-Iman and the lyrics were writtn by Sahir Ludhianvi. The music of the movie was given by Ravi and the playback singers include Asha Bhosle and Mahendra Kapoor. The movie was successful at the box office and went on to do good business.

In the movie Meena (Mala Sinha) lives in Nainital with her widowed father (Nana Palsikar). She has an elder sister named Kamla (Nirupa Roy) who is married to a well-known Barrister named Ashok (Ashok Kumar) and have two children whoes names are Pappu and Dolly. Once Kamla comes Nainital to her father for a visit, she notices that Meena is in love with Rajendra (Sunil Dutt). Rajendra is a painter and singer. Kamla likes Rajendra and selects him for her sister and agree to get them married. Both Meena and Rajendra get very happy and excited with the decision taken by Kamla. But befor their marriage happens, Kamla has an accident and passes away leaving behind her two children and husband alone.

Meena’s father arranges the marriage of Meena with her sister’s husband Ashok because he was conscious about the behaviour by another woman. Meena marries Ashok in pressure and goes to Mumbai to live in his palatial house. Meena comes to Nainital after one year and there she finds Rajendra who is bit upset. Rajendra meets Meena and they rekindle their romance. After sometime Meena goes back to Mumbai but Rajendra follows her and they continue to meet in secret. Meena was not aware that Rajendra is married to Leela (Shashikala) and gets a shock after knowing this. But Leela blackmails her in order to shut her mouth and demands money. Now Meena has two options whether she kill Leela or pay her for rest of her life.
