Govardhan Asrani is famous bollywood actor who is popularly known as Asrani in the industry. He was born on 1st January, 1941 at Jaipur, Rajasthan. He came to Poona and studied the Acting course there and later he became Director of the same Film Institute. He has bollywood career of over thirty five years in which he starred in some very successful roles in some successful movies. Apart from his acting, he has also tried his luck in the field of movie direction and has directed some movies in 19980s and 1990s. He is married to Manju Bansal who is also a movie actress.

Govardhan Asrani made his bollywood debut in the year 1970 with the movie Umang which was directed by Atma Ram where he played his role alongwith Paintal and Subhash Ghai. He has acted in more than three hundred movies Hindi and Gujarati movies. He has mostly played the comedy roles in many movies. He starred in the movie Parichay in 1972 which was directed by Sampooran Singh Gulzar where he played the role of Narayan who is a servent in the house. He later played in the movie Ajnabee in 1974 where he played as Chetan Kumar. He came in the limelight when he played the role of a Jailor who got recently transferred.

He has played many different roles such as the jailor in Sholay, Prashant in Chupke Chupke, Chandru in Abhimaan, Babu in Bawarchi and Nagesh in Chhoti Si Baat for which he was applauded and appreciated by the critics and the audience. He has also done playback singing with the legend Kishore Kumar for the movie ‘Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan’ in 1978 which was directed by Sikandar Khanna. He has also directed some movies such as Udaan (1997), Dil Hi To Hai (1992), Hum Nahin Sudhrenge (1980), Salaam Memsaab (1979), Chala Murari Hero Banne (1977) and Amdavad No Rikshawalo (1974). He recently made a special appearance in the Punjabi film Yaariyan (2008). He has won the Filmfare Award for best comedian for Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Balika Badhu in 1973 and 1976 respectively.
