Pankaj Kapur and Shabana Azmi starred bollywood movie ‘Ek Doctor Ki Maut’ is a drama movie which was directed by Tapan Sinha. The movie was released in 1991 under the banner of National Film Development Corporation. Other starcast included Irrfan Khan, Deepa Sahi, Vijayendra Ghatge and many more in important roles in the movie. The movie was produced by NFDC. The story of the movie was written by Ramapada Choudhury and Abhimanyu whereas the screenplay of the movie was written by Tapan Sinha himself. The music of the movie was given by famous music director, Vanraj Bhatia.

Movie starts with a guy named Dr. Dipankar Roy (Pankaj Kapoor) who is a doctor by profession. He lives a middle class lifestyle alongwith his wife (Shabana Azmi) who always supports him. Dr. Dipankar is very busy in his research to find a vaccine for leprosy and for this purpose, he has also put his married life on the stake. Later on the cost of his personal life, he gets the formula and discovers a vaccine for leprosy successfully. This news of his success is flashed over television and he, an insignificant junior doctor receives international recognition overnight. Later he becomes a victim of professional jealousy and abuse of power threaten Dr. Roy.

Also he is reprimended by the Secretary of Health for breaking the news to the press. As a result, he is asked to report to the Director of Health. Then he is later called by his professional colleagues named Dr. Arijit Sen and Dr. Ramananda to a lecture where he is called only to humiliate. He cannot bears this shock and gets a mild heart attack but he refuses to go to the hospital. But he has some support behind him including his wife and a few others like Dr. Kundu and Amulya (Irfan Khan). But he is continuously harassed. A letter from an American foundation is suppressed and Dr. Roy transferred to a remote village. Later two American doctors receiving credit for discovering the same vaccine leaving behind Dr. Roy shattered.
