Vinod Khanna, Amrita Singh and Raj Babbar starred movie ‘Dharam Sankat’ is an action and family packed drama movie which was directed by N.D. Kothari. The movie was released on 6th September, 1991 under the banner of Mewar Films. Other starcast included Dara Singh, Rohini Hattangadi, Sahila Chaddha, Asrani, Amrish Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Vikram Gokhale, Anjan Srivastav etc in important roles. The movie was produced by Umesh N. Kothari whereas dialogues were written by Achala Nagar. Music of the movie was given by famous duo Kalyanji-Anandji and the songs were rendered by Mohammed Aziz, Sonali Bajpayee, Sapna Mukherjee, Kumar Sanu, Sadhana Sargam, Manhar Udhas and Alka Yagnik. Movie starts with a man named Jagira (Amrish Puri) who is a dacoit. He is famous for his cruelty in the region where he has spread his terror amongst the people. He used to raid the country side at any time and also kills several people. In such a raid, he has killed a woman who has a son named Gopal and makes him an orphan. Therefore another woman named Durga (Rohini Hattangadi) decids to take care of Gopal as her own son named Birju. After several years, Gopal (Raj Babbar) and Birju (Vinod Khanna) have grown up and are very close to each other. But the situation of the region does not changes and one day another band of dacoits raid their village. When Birju tries to oppose them he gets himself in trouble and their leader named Sohn Kanwar (Sahila Chaddha) is about to kill him.

But soon she comes to know that Birju is the son of Durga and therefore she leaves him alive due to Durga being the wife of Dara (Dara Singh) who is an another dacoit. Everyone in the village gets upset with this and there unleases a tide of hate against Birju and Durga. Later they are forced to leave the village. Here Gopal also disowns any relationship he has had with both of them. Later he wants to marry Madhu (Amrita Singh) who is a village girl and is in love with Birju. Shortly Gopal becomes a police inspector and on the other hand, Birju is forced to become a dacait. Now Birju also brings Madhu alongwith him which does not goes well with Sohn Kanwar.
