Dilip Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Nargis starred movie ‘Deedar’ is a romantic movie which was directed by Nitin Bose. The movie was released in 1951 under the banner of Filmkar Productions. Other starcast included Tabassum, Nimmi, Jal Merchant, Tun Tun, Niharika Devi, Surendra, Agha Miraz, Yakub, Murad, Baby Anwari, Parikshit etc in important roles. The movie was produced by Rajendra Jain whereas the movie was written by Azmi Bazidpuri. The superhit music of the movie was given by famous Naushad and the list of playback singers included Shamshad Begum, G.M. Movie starts with Shamu (Dilip Kumar) who lives a middle class lifestyle alongwith his mother who is a widow. He is employed by very wealthy Daulatram Rai (Murad) in the orchard. Daulatram has a daughter named Mala (Nargis) who is very beautiful and attractive and Shamu is very friendly with. One day both Mala and Shamu go for the horse ride which results in an accident. They get thrown down in which Mala gets injured. When they come back to the house, her father sees them and gets enraged. As a result he fires Shamu and also forbids Mala to ever see him again. Now Shamu and his mother have to leave from there to relocate elsewhere. His mother passes away on the way leaving behind Shamu devastated.

But before passing away she leaves Shamu in the care of young Champa (Nimmi) and her uncle. He gets depressed and runs straight into sand storm in which he loses his eyes. Now he becomes dependent on them. Several years later, his uncle also passes away whereas Shamu lives with Champa and both of them make their earnings through singing. One day when he was singing, Dr. Kishore (Ashok Kumar) hears him who is pleased with his voice. He offers him to restore his vision free of cost. Before operation, he is introduced to Kishore’s betrothed who also gets pleased with his voice. Later after the operation, he gets his vision and thinks of rekindle his romance with Mala.
