Daler Mehndi is a very famous bhangra/pop and playback singer who is currently active in bollywood. He was born on 18th August, 1967 at Patna which is the capital of Bihar. As a Sikh his origin is from Patiala, Punjab. Mehndi was a student of traditional Punjabi music and his first album has broken the sales records in India. He began singing at age 6 and was taught the ragas and Shabads from the Guru Granth Sahib by his parents. He learn tabla, dholak/dhool, harmonium and tanpura at the age of fourteen from Late Ustad Raahat Ali Khan Saheb of Gorakhpur. Then he moved to San Francisco, United States and worked as a cab driver there. Then he returned to India and formed a band and initially sang Ghazals inspired by the poets Qateel Shifai and Firaq Gorakhpuri.

He received the Award for Voice of Asia International Ethnic and Pop Music Contest in 1994. Daler Mehndi switched from classical music to pop and his first tune based album ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra‘ in 1995 sold half a million copies in four months and 20 million copies total. This made him the best selling non-soundtrack album in Indian music history. He earned Channel V’s Best Male Pop Singer Award, which he received in 1996 for ‘Dar Di Rab Rab’ and in 1997 for ‘Ho Jayegi Balle Balle’. He has appeared in the movies Mrityudata and Arjun Pundit in short roles. He was able to make a 20.5 million rupees deal with a record company Magnasound due to his success. He gives his voice in many hit movies, ‘Singh Is King‘ (2008) is one of them. Song “Rang De Basanti” form movie Rang De Basanti (2006) was a sensational song which encourages the youth.

His album song “Tunak Tunak Tun” became very popular in 1998 and still it is liked by everyone and played in discos. That song gained popularity due to Daler Mehndi’s wild dancing with his clones. Tunak Tunak Tun was the first music video to make use of bluescreen technology in India. Daler Mehndi and controversies have some type of relationship between them. Recently he was accused of being a member of a scam bringing illegal immigrants to Canada by disguising them as musicians. Later he was released clearly from this accusition.
