Mehmood, Ameeta and Minoo Mumtaz starred movie ‘Chhote Nawab’ is a romantic and comedy drama packed movie which was directed by S.A. Akbar. The movie was released 1961 under the banner of Mumtaz Films. Other starcast included S.N. Banerjee, Raj Dutt, Helen, Anwar Hussain, Nasir Hussain, Raj Kishore, Kumar, Achala Sachdev, Johnny Walker, Baij Sharma etc in significant roles. The movie was produced by Usman Ali whereas the story was written by Mumtaz Ali. The dialogues of the movie were written by B.H. Bukhari and the music of the movie was given by famous Rahul Dev Burman. Songs of the movie were rendered by Shamshad Begum, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi and the lyrics were written by Shailendra. Hit songs of the movie are listed below:

Movie starts with Chhote Nawab (Mehmood) who lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay alongwith his father who is a widower, his sister named Mehnuma (Minoo Mumtaz) and her husband named Safdar (Kumar). Chhoye Mawab has some mental problem due to which which he always does some unusual things such as he is a milk drinker and various childlike activities. His father has borrowed money from Bhagwanti Lala through Safdar’s prompting and is heavily in debt. Later when he gets a court order, he passes away leaving behind his son alone in the hands of Safdar. After that Safdar started to show his true colours. He beats, abuses and drives him out of the house.

Now Nawab is unable to find any work as he has a five years old child’s mind. Later his father’s friend named Nawab Nazir Hussain (Nazir Hussain) comes and takes him away with him to Calcutta. Later he also arranges his marriage with his daughter named Roshan (Ameeta). But his wife (Achala Sachdev) is not agree with his this decision. Upon arrival in Calcutta, Chhote is looked after by Nazir and Roshan who educate him and in about a year Chhote matures considerably. Now he starts to behave according to his age and also falls in love with Roshan. Soon he starts to earn money from horse racing and his drink changes to alcohol from milk. Also he becomes ill mannered and short tempered and also has changed his interest from Roshan to a cabaret dancer named Sophie (Helen).
