Bindu Desai is one of the prominent bollywood actresses popular during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. She was born on 17th January, 1951 at Valsad, Gujarat. She was beautiful,fair-skinned and called the sex symbol of the hindi film industry.She is the daughter of Nanubhai Desai who was a film producer and Jyotsna who was a stage actress. She is the eldest child of her parents and the burden of earning a daily meal fell on her young and frail shoulders after her father’s death. At that time she was only thirteen years of age. She is married to Champaklal Zaveri who is a Gujurati businessman. She got her first major role after marrying him.

Bindu Desai had started her bollywood career in the year 1962 with the movie ‘Anpadh’ in which she played Kiran, a young college graduate. That places her birthdate in dispute. She got her major role in the movie ‘Do Raaste’ which was directed by Raj Khosla in 1969. She played the role of Neela Allopee Prasad alongwith some big names like Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. She had a sizzling item number “Mera Naam Shabnam” to her credit in the movie ‘Kati Patang’ in 1970. The song which is even today remembered as the highlight of the movie. That movie was just the begining and she later gave mesmerizing performances as a seductress in many of her movies such as Imtihaan (1974) and Hawas (1974). By the time, she established an image as a vamp which her contemporaries Helen and Aruna Irani were famous for.

She showed her acting ability in the movie ‘Abhimaan‘ which was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in 1973 and ‘Arjun Pandit’ which was also directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in 1976. The role of Prabha in the movie ‘Chaitali’ in 1975 was also appreciated where she played as the crippled woman. Her deglamourised role of wife to Ashok Kumar in the movie ‘Arjun Pandit’ was proved to be just as convincing. She had to end her stint as the glamorous vamp, dancing and all after an impending pregnancy. She returned back to the silver screen with Hero, Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) and Kishen Kanhaiya (1990) and with many other such movies. Now she makes fewer on-screen appearances. She last appeared in ‘Om Shanti Om‘ (2007) and ‘Mehbooba‘ in 2008.
