Songs of Basant Bahar


Bharat Bhushan and Nimmi starred classic movie ‘Basant Bahar’ is a romantic drama movie which was directed by Raja Nawathe. The movie was released in 1956 under the banner of Shri Vishwabharthi Films. Other starcast included Kumkum, Parsuram, Manmohan Krishna, Chand Burke, Shyam Kumar, Leela Chitnis, Om Prakash, S.B. Nayampalli, Shyam Kumar, Chandrashekhar etc in supporting roles. The movie was produced by R. Chandra whereas the dialogues were written by Rajinder Singh Bedi. Evergreen music of the movie was given by famous duo Shankar-Jaikishan and the songs were crooned by Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Bhimsen Joshi, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi. Movie starts with Narsin (Om Prakash) who lives a wealthy lifestyle alongwith his wife (Leela Chitnis) and a son named Gopal (Bharat Bhushan). Nasrin is a royal astrologer and always helps the emporer (Chandrashekhar) and gives him directions through his ability to read astrology. He also wants his son to get in this line and to become his successor. But he is shocked to know that Gopal is not interested in his astrology. Gopal has love in music and songs and he wants to make his career in this. Also his talent is not hidden from anyone and everyone knows that he could become the Emperor’s Chief Musician if he wins in the contest.

But he does not know that there are also his rivals who do not want him to take part in the competetion as they know very well that Goapl will win this championship. They poison Gopal’s drink in order to win the approval of the emperor. Due to the effect of poison, Gopal loses his voice completely. Shortly a young girl named Gopi (Nimmi) takes interest in Gopal. She also helps him in recovering of his voice as she gives hard knock on the head resulting in recovering of his voice. Now he will be called upon later to prove his worth.
