Songs of Amar Akbar Anthony

Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Parveen Babi and Shabana Azmi starred movie ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ is a family drama movie which is also full of action and comedy. The movie was produced and directed by Manmohan Desai and it was released in 1977 under the banner of Hirawat Jain and Company. Other starcast included Pran, Nirupa Roy, Jeevan, Yusuf Khan, Mukri, Nasir Hussain, Kamal Kapoor, Hercules and Shivraj in significant roles. The screenplay and dialogues of the movie were written by Prayag Raj and Kader Khan respectively. Music of the movie was given by veteran duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal and list of playback singers included Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Mohammad Rafi etc. Hit songs of the movie are listed below:

The movie starts with Robert (Jeevan) who is a career criminal. Kishanlal (Pran) is the Chauffeur of Robert and takes the blame of him for rash driving which Kishanlal does not do. He is sentenced to jail as a person gets killed in that rash driving. Kishanlal only takes this blame on himself after Robert promises him that he will look after his family which consists of his wife named Bharti (Nirupa Roy) and three sons named Amar, Raju and Chhotey. Later Kishanlal completes his sentence and comes back to his home only to get a shock when he sees that his wife is seriously ill and his children have not been fed for several days. He becomes furious and goes to Robert who is busy in living his luxurious life. There he demands the compensaion from Robert but all goes in vein.

Then he steals his car and runs from there. He soon reaches his house where his life gets devastated when he finds a suicide note from his wife. Then he take three children and drives on until he reaches a statue of Mahatma Gandhi where he asks his sons to look after each other and he will be back soon. But he never returns as he encountered and chased by Robert’s men. He meets with an accident in his hurry but survives and finds a box of gold bars in the trunk of the car. He picks that gold and returns where he had left his sons behind but no one is there. All the three sons are adopted by a Hindu policeman, a Muslim tailor (Mukri) and a Catholic priest (Nasir Hussain). The children grows up and becomes Amar (Vinod Khanna), Akbar (Rishi Kapoor) and Anthony (Amitabh Bachchan) who falls in love with three different girls, Laxmi (Shabana Azmi), Salma Ali (Neetu Singh) and Jenny (Parveen Babi).
