Alisha Chinai is a very well known Indian pop/ bollywood singer. She was born on 18th March, 1972 in a gujrati family and was named Sujata. But she changed her name when her cousin’s daughter Alisha (also Chinai) was born. She was first known as Babydoll but she changed her image later and becomes famous as “Madonna” moniker. Alisha Chinai is a leading pop singer, who can be given the credit for bringing the trend of pop music in India. She was married to her manager Rajesh Jhaveri, but they both are living separated now.

Alisha’s initial entry into the Hindi music was through her album, Jadoo. The music of the album was composed by Anu Malik. She also had another album titled Babydoll. She was first introduced to the Hindi film music by the music director and composer Bappi Lahiri. She did playback singing for many actresses, such as Smita Patil, Mandakini, Sridevi, Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit and Divya Bharati etc. Alisha sang the song in the album Old Goan Gold which became very popular though. In the 1990s she worked with different music directors such as Anu Malik and Nadeem-Shravan.

She had numerous Bollywood hit songs, including Tere Ishq Mein Nachenge ( Raja Hindustani ), Sona Sona Roop Hai ( Bollywood/Hollywood ), and the controversial Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole ( Khud-daar ). She has recorded many songs as a pop singer too. She was first noted for her single album titled “Made in India” in 1996. However her follow up albums were not so successful. Alisha received the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award for the song “Kajra Re” in the film Bunty Aur Bubbly in the year 2005 and also received the internatinal billboard award when made in india came out. She also won the Freddie Mercury Award for Artistic Excellence.
