Akayla is a 1991 released action drama bollywood flick which was also the fourth film collaboration of Ramesh Sippy and Megastar, Amitabh Bachchan. Before this film, the duo of Ramesh Sippy and Amitabh Bachchan, collaborated for the movies like Sholay, Shakti and Shaan. It is noteworthy that Akayla failed to get the same response from the audiences as the previous films of the duo got. Akayla was proved to be a big flop at the Box Office. Though the movie had a very a good storyline written by Salim Khan (father of Salman Khan) in accordance with a talented starcast having names like Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Aditya Pancholi. The film was distributed under M. R. Productions and Sippy Films Pvt. Ltd. The movie was produced by G. P. Sippy. Beautiful bollywood actress, Amrita Singh was also seen in an important role in the film. All the songs of the movie are quite good in terms of composition and melody.

Amitabh Bachahan is in the role of a lonely cop in the film named Inspector Vijay Verma. Vijay is a dare devil cop but a lonely person in his personal life. He has no family but just two good friend Shekhar ( Jackie Shroff ) and Seema ( Meenakshi Sheshadri ). Though in name of real family, Vijay only have a younger brother named Ajay Verma but he is also studying abroad. Vijay arrests a deadly criminal named Tony Brigenza and shows him in the court. But he get shocked when Tony’s lawyer presents a video tape in the court which shows that Tony was at a completely different place when the crime was performed. As a result of this, Tony is released by the court. This is the first time when a criminal arrested by Vijay is not sent behind the bar. Vijay become furious over it. Vijay refuse to believe that Tony is not culprit.

Vijay starts keeping a close eye on the crime activities of Tony. He totally focusses on Tony and his criminal activities but for no use. One day, while watching a bollywood film, Seeta Aur Geeta, he realises that Tony is having a twin brother. Vijay tries to collect evidences for proving the existence of Tony’s twin brother. He soon reveals that Tony indeed have a twin brother named Jojo with the help of whom, he easily get out of every crime. Vijay manages to prove this in frontof the court as a result of which Tony is arrested by the police and is sentenced to imprisonment. But problem arises when Tony escapes from jail and hides at the house of Vijay’s friend, Shekhar and Seema.
