Pradeep Kumar, Nargis and Pran starred movie ‘Adalat’ is a romantic movie which was directed by Kalidas. The movie was released in 1958 under the banner of Kawatra Films. Other starcast included Murad, Achala Sachdev, Yakub, Rashid Khan, Pratima Devi, Jawahar Kaul and Minoo Mumtaz who played significant roles in the movie. The evergreen music of the movie was given by famous music director Madan Mohan and the list of playback singers included Asha Bhosle, Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi who gave their melodious voice to the songs. Movie starts with Nirmala (Nargis) who lives alongwith her mother who is a widow, her maternal uncle and his wife. She studies in Arts College where she meets a handsome young guy named Rajinder R. Singh (Pradeep Kumar). Both falls in love with each other and plan to marry. When her aunt comes to know that she loves someone, she disapproves him as she wants to marry Nirmala with an uneducated villager. But Nirmala refuses to marry and soon finds a job at Sada Bahar Nurtya Vidyalaya as a teacher. But to her shock Sada Bahar Nurtya Vidyalaya turns out to be a front for a brothel. This landing her in prison where she gets off with a not guilty verdict.

But she is thrown away from her house which results her mother’s death due to the shock. Later she starts finding some work but is pursued relentlessly by a pimp named Pandit Kedarnath (Pran) who wants her for himself. Later she become Governess with none other than Rajinder’s mother. Nirmala and Rajinder married secretly and then he leaves for Britain leaving behind Nirmala pregnant. But when Singh family comes to know about her pregnancy and the man responsible for this, they denied to accept this and throws Nirmala out of the house straight into the arms of Kedarnath. She runs away and takes shetler at a private hospital where she gives birth to a baby boy.
