Amitabh Bachchan and Waheeda Rehman starred movie ‘Adalat’ is an action and family drama movie which was directed by Narendra Bedi. The movie was released in 1976 under the banner of A.K. Movies. Other starcast included Neetu Singh, Harbans Darshan M. Arora, Anwar Hussain, Pinchoo Kapoor, Heena Kausar, Kader Khan, Sujit Kumar, Vishwa Mehra, K.N. Singh, Maruti Rao, Manorama etc in significant roles. The screenplay and dialogues of the movie were written by Narendra Bedi whereas the music was given by famous duo Kalyanji-Anandji. Movie starts with a guy named Dharamchand (Amitabh Bachchan) who is also called as Dharma. He lives a poor lifestyle in a village alongwith his wife named Radha (Waheeda Rehman). He is brave, honest and very helpful to all the villagers. Later his wife gets pregnant and soon gives birth to a baby boy and named him as Raju. Later three men named Ajit Singh (Anwar Hussain), Suresh and Sujit (Sujit Kumar) are attacked by a tiger and then Dharma comes to rescue them. As a result, they all offer him a job in Bombay whenever he needs it. Later the region experiences the condition of drought and nothing is left to eat in the village. Then Dharma decides to re-locate in Bombay.

Soon he moves to Bombay alongwith his sister named Laxmi (Heena Kausar), Radha and Raju. There Dharma is made the manager of Ajit’s warehouse. Also he starts giving his best to his job but one day unfortunately, he is arrested by the police for carrying on illegal activities. Later he is tried in court where he is proven guilty and sentenced eighteen months in jail. Also additional six months of jal is given to him for contempt of court. When he comes back to his family, he is shocked to see that wife and Raju are near destitution. Laxmi has been raped by Sujit and has killed herself. Then he swears to take revenge with all three of them. Therefore he joins another gang and later reaches to the top in the gang.
