Abhay Deol is a famous bollywood actor who was born on 15th March, 1976 at Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is son of the producer and director Ajit Singh Deol. His paternal uncle is famous veteran actor Dharmendra and his cousins are actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and actress Esha Deol. He was involved in school theatre from his childhood and he decided to take the plunge at the age of eighteen. It took him ten years because he did not want to leave his education to get into the bollywood. His movies are charecterized by Down to Earth acting.

Abhay Deol made his bollywood debut in the year 2005 with the movie Socha Na Tha which was directed by Imtiaz Ali. He played the role of Viren Oberoi who lives a wealthy lifestyle opposite Ayesha Takia in the movie. The movie was produced by his uncle Dharmendra and his performance was quite acceptable. The movie did not do very well at the box office. Then he starred in his next movie ‘Ahista Ahista’ which was directed by Shivam Nair in 2006. This movie was also a box office flop but it got him good critical reviews. His first major box office success was in 2007 with the movie Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd which has a multi starcast and directed by Reema Kagti. He played the role of Aspi opposite Minisha Lamba.

His second successful movie was ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local’ in 2007 which was directed by Sanjay M. Khanduri. The movie did average business at select multiplexes but his role of Nilesh Rastogi was appreciated by the critics. He starred opposite Neha Dhupia in the movie. His next movie titled ‘Manorama Six Feet Under’ became a flop at the box office. HThe movie Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! became the huge hit of the year 2008 where he played the role of a thief in Delhi. He was appreciated by everyone and established him as a dependable mainstream actor. His latest movie was ‘Dev.D’ which was directed by Anurag Kashyap where he played a pivotal role of modern day version of Devdas. Dev D is considered to be a path breaking movie in Indian Cinema because of its crisp cinematography.
