Ajay Devgan, Sonali Bendre and Pooja Bhatt starrer bollywood action drama “Zakhm” was released on December 25, 1998 under the production of Pooja Bhatt and was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The supporting cast of the movie includes Akshay Anand, Ashutosh Rana, Sharat Saxena, Kunal Khemu, Avtar Gill, Nagarjuna, Madan Jain, Saurabh Shukla, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Amardeep Jha, Gyan Prakash, Praveen and Zafar Karachiwala. The story of the movie Zakhm revolves around the sensitive issue of the Hindu Muslim riots, the movie tells the story of one of the family that bared the brunt of the riots. Te story of the movie tells the story of Desai family that lived in the big city of Mumbai. The family is headed by Mrs. Desai ( Pooja Bhatt ), her son Ajay ( Ajay Devgan ) and his wife Sonia ( Sonali Bendre ). The family was happy because a new member in the family was about to arrive as Sonia was pregnant. Everything was going smoothly until one day the shocking incident of demolition of Babri Masjid happened in UP. Raged Muslims started roits all across the country and Mumbai was not left behind.

The evening the riots broke out Mrs. Desai was in the neighborhood temple to offer prayers which she usually do. The raged Muslim mob entered the temple and set her on fire, badly injured Mrs. Desai was admitted into a hospital in the midst of a curfew. With severe burns she was nearing death, before taking her last breaths she asked Ajay to bury her instead of cremate her that Hindus do ritually. This decision of hers was only supported by Ajay, everyone else even her other son forced on cremating her body. In the midst of all this grief Ajay also had to settle peace with his wife who has decided to return back to London to give birth to her child safely from all these riots.
