Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta starrer “Lakshay” was directed by Farhan Akhtar and was released on June 18, 2004. It was produced by Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Films. Other casts of the movie are Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Om Puri, Sharad Kapoor, Raj Zutshi, Sushant Singh, Parmeet Sethi, Boman Irani, Amrish Puri, Lilette Dubey, Sanjay Singh, Aditya Srivastav, Amit Behl, Ranvir Shorey, and Kushal Punjabi. The melodius music is directed by Ehsaan Noorani, Loy Mendonca, and Shankar Mahadevan. The songs of the movie are sung by Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, Shankar Mahadevan, Kunal Ganjawala, and Vijay Prakash.

Lakshay is inspired by the Kargil war and Operation Vijay. It shows the complications, in that war but with a hint of romance, to attract couples. The story starts with Karan ( Hrithik Roshan ). He is a cool guy but have a specific attitude for every thing in life. His childhood friend Romi ( Preity Zinta ) is a modern girl. She is out spoken and says what lies in her heart.  All of a sudden without any particular reason Karan joins Indian Army and get enrolled in IMA. Karan want to prove to himself that his father ( Boman Irani ) and his friends are wrong about him and he has what it takes to join Army. But karan could not stand the training and runs away from the academy. But Romi and his father didn’t like it. So Romi and Karan decided get apart.

Now after some time Karan and Romi meet again. Now Karan is a key officer in the Army. India and Pakistan is having a war and he is at the war front. Romi is a journalist and is on the scene of war to have live coverage of the war. She was pleased to know that Karan has joined Army finally. But now Karan has only one goal in life, to evade every intruder stepping in his motherland. So he chose to go for Operation Vijay, which could be a suicidal mission. And he thinks this time he will prove what he couldn’t earlier. Movie had mixed feed back from the audience. Some liked it some don’t. But one thing is sure that Hrithik needs brushing to improve. Preity was good although she wasn’t there for long enough which was needed for a romantic movie. Feeling of patriotism was the focus. The movie has good songs which were appreciated.
