The movie Hawalat comes up with an ordinary action story that revolves around the corruption spread in the society and the crime associated with it. The story of the movie featured the Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty in the lead roles and their wonderful team has elated the outcome of this ordinary story. The movie is directed by the debutant director Sunder Mohan who also happens to be the joint producer of the movie. The story of the movie revolves around the life of a young, brave and beautiful newspaper reporter Geeta ( Padmini Kolhapure ).

The crime world of the city was ruled by Dharamdas ( Amrish Puri ) who was involved in all kind of illegal activities including the drug smuggling and distribution among the youth. One day determined Geeta managed to get a substantial proof against Dharamdas and his business, she was about to expose this in the newspaper but for that she had to pay a heavy price. She was gang raped by Dharamdas and his men. She was completely devastated and decided to move to the police for help but it became her worst nightmare, the police inspector Sharma ( Gulshan Grover ) was also involved with Dharamdas.
